The Quiet Impact of Faithful Service
Much of the work we do in serving others happens quietly. It may go unnoticed or unacknowledged, and at times that can feel discouraging. Yet as followers of Christ, we serve not for recognition, but because we are called to love and serve others faithfully. Often, we may never fully know the impact of ordinary acts of faithfulness. Seeds are planted in ways we cannot always see.
And sometimes, by God’s grace, we get a glimpse of that impact.
Stonebridge supports a food pantry at Hawthorne Hills, a low-income HUD subsidized apartment complex. The pantry is not limited to residents, but is open to anyone who is hungry. Eleven Stonebridge volunteers offer more than food; they serve as the hands, feet, heart, and ears of Jesus to pantry patrons. The pantry is open each Thursday (2:00–4:00) and receives approximately 1,000 pounds of food each week, serving around 50 households and about 150 individuals.
Recently, one pantry patron shared this encouragement:
“Hello. I reside at the Hawthorne Hill apartment complex. I often, as possible, frequent the food pantry there. I’ve had the honor and still enjoy the pleasure of knowing the staff that assists us! They are amazing. They are kind, compassionate, extremely friendly, and their presence is very much appreciated. With all they do and provide, whether in the pantry or entertaining us with Bingo twice a year, they do it with genuine care and respect for all of us.
I personally am thankful for all they do for us. For me, their value is immeasurable and knowing people can be less than grateful - “thank you” gets overlooked and unspoken. I wanted to express my gratitude and appreciation to them and all the others behind the scenes that we don’t see.”
This note is a beautiful reminder: even when service feels unseen, it is never wasted. We may not always hear “thank you,” and we may not always witness the fruit of our labor, but God is at work through faithful service. And sometimes He gives us a small glimpse of the difference being made; an encouragement to keep serving, keep loving, and keep trusting Him with the impact.
The Hawthorne Hills Pantry is always looking for more volunteers. If you’re interested in learning more about how you can be involved, reach out to outreach@stonebridge.church
